Stagecoach has now published details of the major changes being made to its Cambridgeshire bus network from 30th October. These include the complete withdrawal of a number of routes (as menitioned previously on this site and in the media), the truncation of others, and timetable changes to others (including an enhanced frequency on some city routes).
To check how your local service might be affected – or simply to see what’s proposed – and to download new timetables – go to the full announcement on the Stagecoach website.
Sadly, under the deregulated system dating from the 1980s, Stagecoach only have an obligation to register changes to services, not to consult.

I use Stagecoach bus to get to work in Cambridge Science Park. Currently I take ONE bus, 905 serice to get to work. With this proposed changes I may have to take up to 3 changes in buses to get to Science park. Who did stagecoach consult before changing therse routes? This is madness!!!

This is absolutely disgraceful behaviour by Stagecoach in Cambridge. My Mum and Dad, who live in March, and who are aged 83 and 91 respectively, will now have to go by train at additional expense whenever they travel to and from Cambridge (previously they have used the V2 to get to St.Ives on their Concessionary bus passes, thence the Busway to Cambridge City Centre – they do have a car, but they wouldn’t want to drive all the way to and from Cambridge).
As someone who lives in Ely, a major tourist destination in the UK by the way, this is a huge backward step by Stagecoach in Cambridge as regarding the axing of services 12 and 39, leaving just the service 9. I also have a friend of mine who lives in Swaffham Bulbeck, and after the 30th October when service 11 is due to be axed I will have to rely on lifts from other people or to take a taxi whenever I stay with him (between £35 and £40 one way for travel from Ely to Swaffham Bulbeck by the way, which for someone on benefits is a very large sum of money – this will make trips to and from Cambridge from Swaffham Bulbeck, as I sometimes need to do, also unaffordable, as again its £35-40 one way trip by taxi).

It appears the countryside is being dumped by Stagecoach and the Government in favour of city services. This is in contradiction to the Government policy of taking cars off the road and increasing use of public transport. Withdrawing the 66 bus will isolate Buckden and Little Paxton.
