Buses are fitted with tracking devices to provide Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI). There are a variety of ways that use this data to track your bus in real time. In addition to the apps and websites from the individual operators which you may find useful if you already know which bus to use, you can look at:
- bustimes.org has live maps and timetables.
- real time bus information at stops, which may be the older (larger) LED displays or the newer (tablet-size) Papercast displays
- Smart Cambridge is a map showing buses in real time. It’s handy to see all of the buses together.
- vixConnect gives you arrivals and departures, focusing on information by bus stop.
- Also from Vix is the MyBusTrip app available for Android and Apple devices.
There are also a number of public display screens around Cambridge, showing upcoming bus departures:
- The large totem outside Cambridge Railway Station entrance
- Above the ticket gates at the railway station (look up before you exit through the gates)
- In Cambridge Central Library (often not working)
- In the John Lewis store, by the St Andrew’s Street entrance (behind a pillar, but with some seating)
- In the Urgent Treatment Centre on the Addenbrookes campus
